שרון רינגל בעלת תואר ראשון בתקשורת מהמכללה האקדמית ספיר, תואר שני בהיסטוריה כללית מאוניברסיטת תל אביב ודוקטורט מהחוג לתקשורת באוניברסיטת חיפה. מחקריה מתמקדים בטכנולוגיות דיגיטליות, ארכוב וזיכרון. בעבודת הדוקטורט שלה בחנה את תהליך הדיגיטציה של ארכיונים בספרייה הלאומית ובמסגרת הפוסט דוקטורט בבית הספר לעיתונות שבאוניברסיטת קולומביה, חקרה ארכיונים של ארגוני חדשות ושימור דיגיטלי של תוכן חדשותי. רינגל פרסמה מאמרים העוסקים בייצוגי הגוף הנשי בגרמניה הנאצית, דיגיטציה, ארכוב דיגיטלי ואתנוגרפיה של סריקה.
